INGREDIENTS

For the burger patty

600g good quality (20% fat) beef mince

5 slices bacon

1 tablespoon Ozpig Beef Rub

½ teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For the spring roll filling

4 x chilled burger patties

1 x white onion

1/3 cup yellow American mustard

1/3 cup tomato Ketchup

6 slices processed burger cheese

1 x 20 packet spring roll wrappers

500ml Vegetable oil for deep frying

 

For the salad

½ Chinese cabbage

3 spring onions

50g fried noodles

100g slivered almonds¼ cup Chang’s Crispy Noodle Salad Dressing

Method:

  • Prepare Ozpig Big Pig for cooking with stove plate attachment.
  • Prep Salad - Wash and shred cabbage, dice spring onions, lightly toast almonds in cast iron fry pan on Ozpig Big Pig – Toss cabbage, spring onions in bowl. Set aside.
  • Dice bacon into small pieces.
  • In bow, add mince, bacon and Ozpig Beef Rub & garlic powder.
  • Use hands to combine beef, bacon and rub, portion mix into 4 x 150g and roll into patties.
  • Add oil to cast iron pan (or flat plate), heat, fry each patty (3 min) per side, pressing down with lifter or smash burger press, remove, chill.
  • Dice onion, pickles, slice cheese into 1cm squares, measure sauces and garlic.
  • Break chilled patties into bowl, add onion, pickles, cheese, ketchup, mustard, stir till combined.
  • Lay spring roll wrapper out in diamond shape. Add two spoons of mix along the bottom corner. Fold the bottom corner over the mixture, fold each side inwards over the mixture, roll towards the final corner. Brush final corner with egg wash, finish rolling. Set aside on baking paper, repeat until all of the wrappers have been used.
  • Fill Ozpig Wok half way with oil, place on stove plate, add additional wood to increase heat. Once oil reaches 180˚C (check with temp gauge) use tongs or wire basket to lower in spring rolls, deep fry for 3 mins till brown, remove with wire basket onto a plate lined with paper towel, drain.
  • Toss almonds, noodles and dressing through salad and serve with spring rolls.

Great bit of kit

We have the ozpig series 2 under a patio. Only just bought the house and the pig so we haven't got it in a specific final spot just yet. But having these extra offset and pieces helps keep smell and smoke (not that there is much using nice ironbark) definitely recommend this kit for use under a patio. Plus fast and easy postage made buying them easy as. 5 Stars

Series 2 - a genuine belter!

Series 2 - a genuine belter! Loving my series 2! During my "burning in" tests it really does belt out some heat, one of the primary reasons for the purchase. Guaging heat, I've cooked a couple of hamburgers and some stove top coffee all with great success. My only suggestion is when you've finally decided to treat yourself to a piggy, super treat yourself and get as many of the accessories as you want at the same time. You'll want to use em and I guarantee you'll go back and buy them anyway. No sell, thats a fact, so go the full hog! (thats a pun) Great service, fast post and I'm genuinely looking forward to the colder weather kicking in.

Exactly what I was looking for

- I was looking for something wood-fired and portable that I could take anywhere to boil water and cook a meal on and that could also be my home BBQ. The Pig is simpler and safer than a camp fire and a great back-up at home if everything goes down. I’ve only done BBQs so far and I’m enjoying the added wood-smoke taste. Looking forward to cooking more sophisticated meals down the track.

Big pig - loving it

We love our big pig . It’s so beautiful to sit around having the large opening and we are loving the smoker having started making beef jerky . We had a baby pig but this one is hands down the best
